While traveling in Europe, I was accompanied by disciples including "four ladies" from Los Angeles, California, namely Sun Ai-Zhen, Wei Si-Yan, Chen Chuan-Fang, and Jiang Guan-Rong.

News and documentaries constantly warn of a pending huge earthquake in California. These forecasts are neither groundless, nor hearsay, but based on seismology. California actually sits on a seismic belt consisting of a series of faults where a huge earthquake hit a hundred years ago.  Since then, the earth has accumulated an enormous amount of energy much like the situation a century ago. This energy is so powerful that once released, may create an earthquake with magnitude of nine or ten on the Richter scale. If an earthquake of this magnitude were to strike, it would result in an unimaginable catastrophe. The probability of such an earthquake occurring in California is said to be as high as 99%. This is disturbing news and has California residents very concerned.

Naturally, the "four ladies" from California were very troubled by the pending huge earthquake. They repeatedly asked me what can be done.

"Will the earthquake strike?"

I answered, "Yes." (The Divine Book wrote yes too.)

"What should we do?"

I answered, "As we cultivate Buddhadharma, Bodhisattvas and protectors will in turn protect us. At the same time, we must equip ourselves with the know-how to survive an earthquake. This is fundamental."

"Will Grandmaster help us?"

I answered, "Of course."

"How do you intend to help?"

I answered, "By reducing major issues to minor ones, and minor ones to nothing. I shall keep you safe and sound."

Chen Chuan-Fang said, "Having Grandmaster around, everything will be fine."

I said, "Still we should not lower our guard. You need to prepare water, food, flash lights, and a radio among other supplies beforehand. And you need to arm yourself with the basic knowledge of escape and survival so that when the earthquake hits, you can avert the disaster. In addition to California, Seattle is also seated on a seismic belt, hence those living in Seattle have to be just as alert."

"But Grandmaster resides in Seattle, not California."

"I will pray for you," I responded.

As promised, I prayed as follows: "When the earthquake comes, reduce its magnitude to half from ten; or make it disappear altogether."

As expected, an earthquake of 5.4 magnitude struck California. It occured on July 29 2008 at noon. People were frightened. Fortunately, it was a shallow earthquake measuring only 5.4 on the Richter scale, and no serious casualties were reported.

I said, "Regardless of this event, I still have the responsibility to watch over my disciples in California. May the power of the boundary protection guard my disciples in California!"

A Poem:

The city was ruined in the past. 

Now a repeat earthquake will strike any time.

I pray to reduce the damage to half.

So that family (disciples) will not part.
